PTSD

Healing what still echoes.

Post-traumatic stress disorder can follow a frightening or life-threatening experience. The past keeps returning — but with support, those echoes grow quieter.

What it is

PTSD is a condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms may appear soon afterwards or emerge months, even years, later.

It is not a sign of weakness. With trauma-focused therapy, many people process what happened and regain a sense of safety and control over their lives.

How it shows up

  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks
  • Nightmares related to the trauma
  • Avoidance of reminders and places
  • Feeling constantly on guard or hypervigilant
  • Negative thoughts about oneself or the world
  • Emotional numbness or detachment

What helps

  • Trauma-focused CBT and EMDR therapy
  • Grounding and regulation techniques
  • Support groups with others who understand
  • Medication for sleep or anxiety where appropriate
