Understanding

ADHD

A different rhythm of attention.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder affects focus, impulse control and energy. Lived well, it also carries creativity, drive and a unique way of seeing.

What it is

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, activity and impulses. It often appears in childhood and can continue into adulthood.

It is not about laziness or lack of discipline. With the right structure, strategies and support, many people with ADHD thrive and use their strengths fully.

How it shows up

  • Difficulty sustaining attention on tasks
  • Restlessness or constant mental activity
  • Impulsivity in decisions or speech
  • Forgetfulness in daily routines
  • Losing track of time or belongings
  • Hyperfocus on things that capture interest

What helps

  • Structured routines and visual planning tools
  • Behavioural coaching and CBT
  • Medication prescribed and monitored
  • Workplace and study accommodations
