Eating Disorders

Reclaiming the relationship with the body.

Eating disorders involve disturbed eating habits and a difficult relationship with body and self. Recovery is possible — and no one has to walk it alone.

What it is

Eating disorders — including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder — are serious conditions centred on food, weight and body image, often used to cope with deeper emotional pain.

They are not choices or phases. With specialist, compassionate care combining medical, nutritional and psychological support, full recovery is achievable.

How it shows up

  • Preoccupation with weight, shape or food
  • Restrictive eating or strict food rules
  • Bingeing followed by guilt or secrecy
  • Purging or excessive exercise to compensate
  • Withdrawal from social meals
  • Intense fear of weight gain

What helps

  • Specialist nutritional and medical care
  • Psychotherapy (CBT-E, family-based therapy)
  • Addressing underlying emotional needs
  • Support groups and relapse-prevention plans
